Internet access is possible in Colombia, but its quality is barely efficient. As time passes by and the country dives deeper into the digital era, social disparities grow at the same pace. Even though Internet access is more evident, the privilege of Internet access is celebrated by those who have more resources while others are left behind.

INEQUALITY REMAINS A PROBLEM

Colombia’s Average Download Speed (ADS) is 30.5 Megabits per second (Mbps). However, there is a gap regarding incomes:

Access to wireline internet varies depending on the city: in big cities such as Bogotá, 26 of each 100 habitants have wireline/fixed internet. In other departments as in La Guajira, only 5 out of 100 people have access to this type of internet.

In Colombia, it takes about 4 times longer than the amount of average global working hours required to afford mobile service. For broadband connections, the working time needed is about 3 times higher than the global average.

Colombians struggle to afford the cheapest mobile internet connections and broadband services.
